Levitation is a phenomenon of psychokinesis (PK) in which objects, people, and animals are lifted into the air without any visible physical means, and float or fly about. The phenomenon has been said to have occurred in mediumship, shamanism, trances, mystical rapture, etc. Some cases of levitation appear to be almost spontaneous, while spiritual or mystical adepts are said to be able to control it consciously.
Street Magician: David Blaine
David Blaine was born in Brooklyn, New York on April 4, 1973. Encouraged by his mother, Patrie White, he became a master of magic. At the age of four, he saw a magician perform magic in a subway and he decided to get his first trick from a Disney shop, the pencil through the card. His mother got remarried to John Bukalo, a banker, at ten and moved to Jerseyville, New Jersey, where half brother Michael, now 15, was born. He began to get interested in acting as a teen. He traveled to Manhattan everyday to go to an acting school he attended. He did a few commercials and small appearances on soap operas. By 16, he LEVITATED for his doctor who immediately took him in for examination. At 17, he moved back to New York by him self and lived in Hell's Kitchen, a place which quickly tests your mettle. Places like Sherry Netherland then Gramercy Park have put memories in his mind too. Unfortunately, when David was 21, his 48 year old mother died of ovarian cancer in 1994.
David started performing at rich parties. He performed to people such as Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, David Geffen, Mike Tyson and Madonna. He became real good friends with Robert De Niro and Leonardo De Caprio. He also befriended director Harmony Korine, who he calls harmful. He made a tape of his magic and sent it in to ABC. They were astonished and requested an interview. When they saw his magic, they knew they would make a special. If you don't already know, he produced David Blaine: Street Magic.
The special reaired September 14, 1997. David Blaine has only been in some other specials inc including Oprah Summer Magic and Conan O' Brien. Between 97 and 99, he has dated people like Fiona Apple and Madonna.
On April 5, 1999, David Blaine Buried himself Alive for a week under six feet of Plexiglas tank filled with 4000 pounds of water, an attempt no other magician has tried, to promote his new special David Blaine: Magic Man. After he got out, he was on Conan again, and Rosie. Apparently he lost 24lbs. Even Regis mentioned him on his show. Houdini's alive granddaughter approved it. While in his glass coffin, he thought about his new publicity stunt for his next special. From word of mouth and MTV, it seems he is to be frozen alive like Han Solo in Star Wars. No one knows what his third special is called, but it will probably be about David going around the world, showing mind-boggling repertoire. It is to air sometime in September. Other plans for him are a movie, Trick Monkey; about a magician's life, and a stage show. I believe the movie was just a rumor.
Although people think of him as David Blaine, Blaine is really his middle name. From his mom's last name most people think his name is David White. He has gone by several last names in his life only so people won't know who he really is.
